Angi vs Thumbtack: How Each Charges for Leads (2026)

October 24, 2026·Nataliia· 8 min read All posts
Both platforms charge service businesses for leads, not for winning the job. Angi's pro help pages say you pay a fee for each lead you are matched to, and that fees vary by job size. Thumbtack's pro page says there is no subscription, no annual fee and no membership fee, and that you control your pricing and budget. Neither publishes a full price list, so this guide compares the rules instead.
The vendors' public pages were read on 24 October 2026. Anything that came from pros, not the vendors, is marked as such. The guide is for US home-service businesses such as cleaners, handymen, movers and landscapers.

How Does Angi Charge for Leads?

Angi's service professional FAQ says pros pay "a nominal fee for each lead you match to" and that "different sized jobs have different lead fees." The page does not give a price table. It also says the customer is connected with multiple Angi Leads professionals for each request, and that there is no guarantee on lead volume.
You can turn the service on or off by adjusting your profile, according to the same FAQ. It does not describe contract terms on that page. Read the terms before you sign, because third-party sources describe Angi Ads, a separate product, differently. Our Angi Ads vs Angi Leads guide covers that split.

What Is Angi's Lead Credit Policy?

Angi's lead credit guidelines are specific. Credits must be requested within 30 days of the charge. They are issued as store credit, not cash, and unused credit expires six months after issue.
Full credit is listed for a duplicate request, a wrong zip code that is not in your profile, a wrong job type not in your profile, a competitor testing the system, and contact details that are all wrong or disconnected. A wrong job type that is in your profile gets partial credit.
The guidelines say these do not qualify: the customer does not call back, hired someone else, changed their mind, is just shopping, or you did not win the job. The page says lead pricing already accounts for these cases.

How Does Thumbtack Charge for Leads?

Thumbtack's pro page says there is no charge to join, no annual fees and no membership fees. It says you control your pricing and budget for leads, and that this determines how many leads you get. It also claims limited competition per lead and no hidden fees or contracts.
Thumbtack's help center pages returned no readable text on 24 October 2026, so their refund and pricing details are not used here. Check them in your account.
One pro reported in the Thumbtack Community that a furniture-assembly lead cost $83.25 and went to three pros. A moderator in the thread suggested revisiting the max lead price setting. That is one anecdote, not a price list. Our Thumbtack lead cost guide goes deeper on pricing factors.

Who Should Pick Which?

Use this rule, then test with a small budget.
  • You want a hard cap on spend and control over price: start with Thumbtack, because you set the lead price and budget yourself.
  • You work in trades where jobs are large and a lead fee is small next to the job value: Angi's per-lead model can still pay, if you can answer leads quickly.
  • You cannot reply within minutes: neither platform rewards slow replies, because several pros compete for the same customer.
  • You have a great review profile and an existing website: put money into a Local Services Ads setup first and compare.

What Does a Won Job Cost? A Worked Example

All numbers below are assumptions, not platform data. Suppose a job earns $400 in profit. You buy 20 leads on each platform at $45 per lead on Angi and $60 per lead on Thumbtack, and you close 15% on Angi (several pros) and 20% on Thumbtack.
Angi (assumed)Thumbtack (assumed)
Leads bought2020
Price per lead$45$60
Total spend$900$1,200
Close rate15%20%
Jobs won34
Cost per won job$300$300
Profit after lead cost3 x $400 - $900 = $3004 x $400 - $1,200 = $400
Different lead prices can land on the same cost per won job. The close rate drives the result, so track it for 30 days before you scale. Your break-even is the profit per job multiplied by your close rate. In this example it is $60 at 15% and $80 at 20%.

What Should You Ask Both Platforms Before Spending?

Ask support these questions, in writing, before you spend:
  • The expected lead price for your trade and zip code
  • How many pros receive the same lead
  • Refund or credit rules, and the time limit
  • How to pause or stop, and whether anything auto-renews
If you want a third option, our Bark vs Thumbtack comparison looks at a different lead marketplace.

FAQ

Is Angi or Thumbtack cheaper?

Neither publishes a price list. Angi sets fees by job size, and Thumbtack lets you set your own lead prices. Compare cost per won job on your own numbers.

Does Thumbtack charge a monthly fee?

According to Thumbtack's pro page, there is no charge to join and no annual or membership fees. You pay for leads.

Can I get a refund on a bad Angi lead?

Angi offers credits, not cash. You must ask within 30 days, and credit expires after six months. Leads where the customer chose someone else do not qualify.

Do these platforms send the same lead to several pros?

Angi says customers are connected with multiple pros. Thumbtack claims limited competition per lead, and one pro reported a lead sent to three pros.

Is Thumbtack vs HomeAdvisor the same comparison?

Largely yes. Jobber, a secondary source, says HomeAdvisor is now called Angi Leads and belongs to Angi Homeservices Inc. The lead rules above come from Angi's own Angi Leads Pro pages, which still sit on the pro.homeadvisor.com domain. Jobber does not date the rename, so check your account for the current product name.

Which is better for a new business?

Start with the one where you control spend, then measure close rate for 30 days.
