Google Adds AI Performance Report to Merchant Center — First Look at AI Shopping Data
Google is rolling out an AI performance report inside Merchant Center showing how products appear in AI-powered shopping results. First time Google has given businesses direct visibility into AI Shopping performance.
The new report shows impression share, click-through rates, and conversion data specifically from AI-generated shopping experiences — separate from traditional Product Listing Ads performance.
Early data suggests AI Shopping surfaces different products than standard PLAs, often prioritizing items with complete product data (rich descriptions, high-quality images, full attributes) over those optimized purely for bids.
For local businesses selling products online — coffee equipment, pet supplies, fitness gear — this report reveals whether AI Shopping is driving traffic and what product data gaps to fix.
If you run Google Shopping, check Merchant Center weekly once this report rolls out. Products with thin descriptions or missing attributes are most likely to underperform in AI Shopping. Fill in every product field — it costs nothing and directly affects AI visibility.
