Google Preferred Sources Arrive in AI Overviews — Users Can Now Pin Trusted Sites
Google is rolling out Preferred Sources in AI Overviews and AI Mode, letting users pin specific websites they want Google to prioritize. This creates a new trust layer where brand loyalty directly boosts search visibility.
Preferred Sources lets users tell Google to always pull from specific sites when answering their questions. Selected sources get priority placement in AI Overviews and AI Mode results.
Early testing shows opt-in rates are highest among users who already have strong brand relationships — people who read a business newsletter or follow them on social are far more likely to add them as a preferred source.
This is a step toward personalized search at scale: your regular customers may start seeing your content prominently in their AI results if they add you — turning existing loyalty into algorithmic advantage.
Send an email or social post to your existing customers explaining Preferred Sources and how to add your website. Frame it simply: if you want our tips to show up when you ask Google questions about your topic, here is how. Engaged customers are most likely to opt in.
