Instagram Link-in-Bio Update Boosts Local Traffic for Small Businesses

Meta has rolled out a new Link-in-Bio tool that lets you add multiple shoppable and booking links directly on your Instagram profile. The change expands the clickable area and adds analytics, letting coffee shops, salons, groomers and gyms capture more foot‑traffic from Instagram users instantly.

Instagram’s profile link has long been a single URL placeholder that many local brands use to funnel followers to a landing page. It’s a core traffic source for small businesses that rely on visual discovery and impulse visits.

The new Link-in-Bio feature, launched globally on October 15, replaces the single‑link model with a carousel of up to five customizable cards—each can link to a menu, online booking, e‑commerce checkout, or a Google Business Profile. Meta also adds click‑through analytics visible in the Instagram Insights dashboard.

For local advertisers this means you can direct Instagram users straight to a reservation system or a “order ahead” page without a third‑party link‑tree, reducing friction and improving conversion rates. The built‑in analytics let you see which card drives the most clicks, enabling rapid A/B testing of offers.

A coffee shop can showcase a “Buy‑Now” card for mobile orders, a salon can add a “Book Appointment” card linked to their scheduling software, and a pet groomer can feature a “Special Offer” card that drives coupon redemptions. Fitness studios can promote class sign‑ups or a free trial pass directly from the profile.

The rollout is full‑scale but currently limited to business accounts with 10 k+ followers; Meta will extend to all business profiles by early December. Watch the “Link‑in‑Bio” performance tab in Insights for click trends and be ready to add new cards as promotions change.

What this means for your business

If you have a business Instagram account, enable the new Link‑in‑Bio carousel today, add up to five cards (e.g., online ordering, booking, coupon), and set the first card to your highest‑margin offer. Then monitor the click‑through rate in Insights each week and swap the lowest‑performing card for a fresh promotion.
