Meta launches granular age & gender ad targeting for local campaigns
Meta’s new Creative Ad Targeting lets advertisers assign specific age ranges and gender filters to individual creative elements within a single ad set. For local coffee shops, salons, pet groomers and gyms this means you can show a latte‑promo to 18‑24‑year‑olds while displaying a senior‑discount offer to 55+ users, boosting relevance and conversion rates instantly.
Meta’s ad platform lets businesses run paid campaigns on Facebook, Instagram and Audience Network. Small‑business owners use it to drive foot traffic, online orders and appointment bookings by targeting geographic zones and basic demographics.
The update adds a UI control that lets you split a single ad set into multiple creative variations, each with its own age‑range and gender parameters. The feature rolled out globally on 2024‑10‑15 and is available to all advertisers through the Ads Manager “Creative Split” tab.
Because each creative now speaks directly to a defined demographic, cost‑per‑click (CPC) can drop 10‑20% while conversion lift climbs 5‑12% in early tests. Local budgets stretch further and ad relevance scores improve, which feeds into better placement on users’ feeds.
Coffee shop: run a “Morning Brew” video ad shown only to 18‑34‑year‑olds; Salon: display a “Bridal Hair” carousel to women 25‑40; Pet groomer: promote “Senior Pet Discount” to users 55+; Fitness studio: push “HIIT for Beginners” to men 20‑30 – each creative gets its own demographic filter, eliminating wasted impressions.
The rollout is full‑scale but Meta will continue A/B testing the UI for the next 30 days. Watch your Ads Manager dashboard for a new “Creative Split” column and monitor relevance scores and CPC trends weekly to gauge impact.
Today, open Ads Manager, create a new ad set, click the ‘Creative Split’ tab, duplicate your existing creative, then assign 18‑34 yr age + all genders to the latte promo and 55+ yr + all genders to the senior discount. Launch both variations simultaneously and track which yields a lower CPC; pause the under‑performing split within a week.
