Denver Pet Groomers on Google Maps: Review Benchmarks 2026

Part of the guide: Pet Groomer Google Maps & Local SEO

October 6, 2026·Nataliia· 8 min read All posts
The typical Denver pet groomer on Google Maps has 174 reviews and an average rating of 4.69 stars. We analysed 24 Denver pet groomers in October 2026. Of those, 8 (one third) have 200 or more reviews and 4 (about 17%) have fewer than 50. This is a smaller sample than our other Denver niches, so treat it as a useful snapshot rather than a full market study, but the message is clear: a groomer with a few hundred reviews is well established, and a groomer under 50 has real room to grow.
This is original data we collected ourselves from Google Maps. Below you will find the benchmark table, what it means for a new and an established groomer, a 30-day plan, an FAQ and a methodology note.

The headline numbers

Snapshot for Denver pet groomers, collected in October 2026:
  • 24 pet groomers analysed
  • 4.69 average Google rating
  • 174 median number of reviews
  • 8 groomers with 200 or more reviews (one third)
  • 4 groomers with fewer than 50 reviews (about 17%)
Please read "analysed" literally. Our searches returned 24 pet groomers for Denver, which is a much smaller list than we saw for coffee shops, salons or fitness studios. It does not mean there are only 24 groomers in Denver. Mobile groomers, home-based operators and groomers inside pet stores may not appear in the same way. The conclusions below describe the 24 we looked at.

Denver pet groomer review benchmarks in one table

MetricDenver pet groomers (Oct 2026)
Groomers analysed24
Average Google rating4.69
Median number of reviews174
Groomers with 200+ reviews8 (33%)
Groomers with 50 to 199 reviews12 (50%)
Groomers with fewer than 50 reviews4 (about 17%)
The 50 to 199 group is what remains after subtracting the others from 24 (24 minus 8 minus 4 equals 12), so half of the groomers analysed sit in the middle band.
In our cross-city benchmark tables, pet groomer medians ranged from 114 in Chicago to 198 in Austin. Denver's 174 is the second highest of the five, behind Austin, with Nashville at 165 and Seattle at 133. Denver's 4.69 average rating is close to the others, which ranged from 4.68 to 4.78.
DataLatte Take
Pet owners read reviews closely because they are handing over a family member. A groomer with a few hundred reviews that mention a nervous dog or a first haircut feels safer than one with a perfect score and almost no detail.

What the numbers mean for a new pet groomer

Reaching 50 is a meaningful first step. Four of the 24 groomers analysed (about 17%) are under 50, so you would be in company, but getting out of that group quickly makes you look more established. Because the typical groomer has 174 reviews, every review you collect narrows the gap.
You have a natural review moment. Pickup is emotional: a freshly groomed dog, a relieved owner. That is the best time to ask, either at the counter or in a message sent a few hours later with a photo of the dog.
Ask for specifics, without scripting. Reviews that mention a breed, a service (de-shedding, puppy first groom, senior dog) or how you handled an anxious pet are valuable for future customers searching for exactly that. Invite people to share what mattered to them rather than telling them what to write.
Cover the profile basics. Services and prices, photos of finished pets (with owner consent), hours, a booking link, and your service area if you are mobile. Our Google Business Profile guide for pet groomers lists each field.
Be careful with a small sample of reviews. If you have 15 reviews and one is negative, your average will move. Respond calmly and keep asking everyone, not only the happiest owners.

What the numbers mean for an established pet groomer

If you are above 200 reviews, you are in the top third of the groomers we analysed. Your risk is the review stream drying up while newer groomers collect fresh feedback. Keep a rhythm of new reviews rather than relying on an old pile.
If you are in the 50 to 199 band, you are in the middle half. You are close to the median of 174 and not far from the 200 mark. A steady push for a few months could move you up.
Protect a 4.69 average. Pet services are emotional, and a bad experience, such as a nick or a late pickup, can trigger long, upset reviews. Your reply is read by future owners. Acknowledge, explain what you will change, and invite them to talk directly.
Mention what only you do. Cat grooming, large breeds, hand scissoring, gentle handling for anxious dogs: if it is true, make sure it is on your profile, in your replies and in your photos.
Fix recurring complaints. If several reviews mention waiting or late pickups, adjust scheduling before you invest in more marketing. Our guide to asking pet grooming clients for Google reviews includes wording that fits the pickup moment.

A 30-day review and Google Business Profile plan

About 30 to 45 minutes per week.

Week 1: Profile foundation

  1. Verify your profile and check that name, address, phone and website match your signage and website.
  2. Choose your primary category (for example, pet groomer) and add accurate secondary categories.
  3. Add services with plain descriptions, such as full groom, bath and brush, nail trim and de-shedding, and prices or price ranges where you can.
  4. Add your booking link or a phone number that is answered during business hours.
  5. Upload photos of the salon, your team and finished pets, with owner consent.

Week 2: Make asking part of pickup

  1. Create your review link and a QR code.
  2. Put the QR code on the counter, on grooming receipts and in your pickup text message.
  3. Ask at pickup with a simple line: "If you are happy with how they look, a Google review helps other owners find us."
  4. Do not offer incentives such as discounts or free add-ons for reviews, and do not only ask owners you expect to be positive. Both break Google's rules.
  5. Reply to every review from the last 60 days.

Week 3: Add detail and activity

  1. Post an update, such as holiday booking dates or a seasonal coat-care tip.
  2. Answer common questions on your profile: vaccination requirements, how you handle anxious pets, cancellation policy.
  3. Message recent clients from the last 30 days, with a friendly thank-you and the review link, sent once.
  4. Add more photos, ideally with a new set every week.

Week 4: Review and adjust

  1. Count new reviews and compare with your starting point.
  2. Compare with the benchmarks: are you under 50, in the 50 to 199 band, or heading for 200?
  3. Check Performance in your profile for calls, bookings and direction requests.
  4. Plan month two. Keep what worked and drop what did not. Our free Local SEO Grader will flag other gaps.
If you want help, our Google Business Profile service covers profile setup, regular updates and a review request flow built around pickup.

FAQ

How many Google reviews does a Denver pet groomer need?

In our October 2026 sample of 24 groomers, the median was 174 reviews and a third had 200 or more. That is your market context. There is no required number, but steady growth toward and beyond 50 will make you look more established.

What is a good Google rating for a pet groomer?

The average among the 24 groomers analysed was 4.69. Staying around or above that is typical. Detailed reviews matter as much as the number, since owners read what other people say about their dogs' experience.

Why is your Denver pet groomer sample so small?

Our Google Maps searches returned 24 groomers for Denver, fewer than for other niches. We report the number analysed rather than implying a total, and we will revisit when we refresh the data.

Do reviews help me show up in Google Maps?

Google says local results are based on relevance, distance and prominence, and review information contributes to prominence. How much weight reviews carry is not public. Reviews also help owners choose you, which is the more important reason to earn them.

Can I ask for reviews by text?

Yes, as long as you follow your local messaging rules and ask clients who have a relationship with you. Keep it brief and send it once.

Should I reply to negative reviews about a pet's grooming?

Yes. Stay calm, apologise for the experience without admitting fault you are unsure about, explain what you do to keep pets safe, and invite a conversation offline.

Methodology note

  • Source: our own collection from Google Maps search results for pet groomers in Denver, Colorado.
  • When: October 2026. We plan to refresh the data and will update the date when we do.
  • Sample: 24 pet groomers analysed. This is the set of listings returned by our searches, not a count of every groomer in the city, and it is small, so figures can shift noticeably with a few listings.
  • Metrics: average rating is the mean of listed Google ratings; median reviews is the middle review count; "200+" and "under 50" count groomers with at least 200 or fewer than 50 reviews. The 50 to 199 group and percentages are calculated from those counts and rounded.
  • Limits: mobile and home-based groomers may be under-represented. Results vary by search location and time, and review counts change daily.
