Later vs Planoly for Small Business: Pricing and Limits

October 24, 2026·Nataliia· 7 min read All posts
For one business scheduling Instagram and a few other networks, the two tools are close on price. On their pricing pages, checked on 2026-10-24, Later Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly and Planoly Starter is $14 a month. The two figures are not like for like, because Later quotes its annual rate and the Planoly page showed monthly prices. The real differences are in limits, add-ons and trial terms.
Both Starter plans cover 1 user and 1 social set. Later's page describes a social set as 8 profiles in total. Where the page did not state a number, this article says so rather than guessing.

What Are the Plans and Prices?

Both pages list three paid plans. Later's prices are shown in USD and taxes are extra. Planoly's page showed monthly prices and stated a saving for annual plans without giving annual dollar amounts.

The post limit is the figure to check. Later's page says Starter allows up to 30 posts per profile and did not show the period in the text read, so confirm whether that is per month before relying on it.

What Do Add-Ons Cost?

Extra capacity is where a small plan grows. Later lists add-ons for Growth and Scale only: extra social sets at $11.25 a month each, extra users at $3.75 a month each, and extra AI credits at $3.75 a month for 100 credits. Starter cannot add them.
Planoly lists Growth add-ons at $10 a month per extra social set and $5 a month per extra user. Pro add-ons are $8 and $3. Planoly's page says Starter users must upgrade to Growth to add sets or users. Neither tool lets the smallest plan stretch, so choose your plan on where you will be in six months.

Is There a Free Plan?

Planoly's page says a separate free plan exists only on the mobile app and includes 10 uploads a month. Later's pricing page offered a 14-day free trial on each plan and the text read did not mention a permanent free plan. If you want to schedule for free over the long term, neither page makes that easy.
Later and Planoly both ask for a card decision after 14 days, so treat the trial as a way to build two weeks of posts and test the workflow, not as a free tier.

The Math: One Shop, Three Profiles

All inputs below are assumptions. A salon schedules to 3 profiles (for example Instagram, Facebook and TikTok), with one person doing the posting and 12 posts a month per profile.
  • Posts a month: 3 x 12 = 36 (assumption)
  • Later Starter: $18.75 x 12 = $225 a year on annual billing. Starter's 30-post-per-profile limit covers 12 posts a month if the period is monthly.
  • Planoly Starter: $14 x 12 = $168 a year on monthly billing. With the page's "up to 15%" annual saving, the lowest possible annual cost would be about $143 (arithmetic from the stated maximum), but the actual annual price was not shown.
On these assumptions Planoly is cheaper by roughly $57 a year at list price. The gap shrinks if Later's annual billing is compared with Planoly's annual rate, which was not visible. Run the comparison again at checkout, with taxes included.
Do This Today
Count how many profiles and users you need now and a year from now. If you need a second user soon, compare Later Growth ($37.50 billed yearly) with Planoly Growth ($24) instead of the Starter plans.

What Should You Check Before Paying?

Pricing pages change, and the two here are not shown on the same billing basis. Before paying, check four things on the live page: the billing period behind each price, whether taxes are added at checkout, what counts as a profile or a social set, and what happens to scheduled posts if you cancel.
Also decide how much of your week the tool will save. A scheduler does not create posts, it only publishes them on time. If you do not yet have a posting routine, the tool will sit unused for the first month and you will have paid for a trial you did not use. Build a month of posts first, then pick the plan.

Who Should Pick Which?

  • Pick Planoly Starter if you want the lowest listed monthly price, one user and no post-count worry, since its page shows unlimited uploads.
  • Pick Later if you want a single plan that bundles up to 8 profiles in one social set and you are happy to pay annually.
  • Pick Later Growth or Planoly Growth if a second person, such as a manager or freelancer, needs access.
  • Pick neither yet if you post fewer than a few times a week. Our guide to automating Instagram posting covers free options.
