Windsurf pricing is now listed under its new name, Devin Desktop: Free at $0, Pro at $20 a month, Max at $200 a month, and Teams at $80 a month plus $40 per full developer seat. Usage is a daily and weekly allowance rather than a fixed message count, and Pro lets you buy extra usage at API prices. Windsurf's own address, windsurf.com/pricing, now redirects to devin.ai/pricing.
Prices and features checked on 7 November 2026.
This guide is for owners and marketers of local businesses who have heard of Windsurf and want to know what it costs and whether it is worth using. All numbers come from the vendor's pages, listed in Sources.

How Much Does Windsurf Cost?

The pricing page lists five plans. Prices are shown per month; no annual prices appeared in the text opened.
PlanPriceWhat the page says
Free$0"Light quota to code with agents", limited model availability, unlimited inline edits, unlimited Tab completions
Pro$20 a monthIncreased quotas with access to frontier models from OpenAI, Claude, Gemini and SpaceXAI, free use of SWE-2, access to cloud agents (Devin Cloud), extra usage at API pricing
Max$200 a monthEverything in Pro with "significantly higher quotas"
Teams$80 a month for the plan, plus $40 a month per full dev seatEverything in Pro, up to 200 users, centralized billing, admin dashboard, priority support
EnterpriseContact salesSAML/OIDC single sign-on, dedicated deployment option, VPC, custom terms
The page gives no numeric credit or message amounts for any plan. It describes a "usage allowance that refreshes automatically on a daily and weekly basis". On paid plans, extra usage is "consumed at API pricing".
$20

The Pro plan is the lowest paid price on the current pricing page, with the Free plan limited to a light agent quota

Max at $200 and Teams at $80 plus $40 per seat are the higher tiers.

Is Windsurf Now Called Devin Desktop?

Yes. Devin's documentation FAQ says: "Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf." The change was set for 2 June 2026 as a regular over-the-air update. The FAQ says the editor is the same, nothing is being removed, and a command called surf is replaced by devin-desktop, though the older commands still ship.
On pricing, the FAQ states that current plans continue as before and pricing is unchanged for all plan types. It also says Devin Cloud remains a separate product, and that Devin Local, the local agent inside the editor, "keeps the same prompt-based credit model".
That wording differs from the pricing page, which speaks of quotas that refresh daily and weekly. The pages opened do not reconcile the two, so check which one applies to your account in the app. The Windsurf documentation address now redirects to docs.devin.ai.

What Is Windsurf and How Does It Work?

Windsurf is an AI code editor: a desktop app where you open a project folder, ask an AI agent to change files, and see the edits in place. The Devin FAQ documents file paths for macOS, Windows and Linux, but the pages opened do not give a supported-platforms list or system requirements, so confirm those on the download page.
Compared with the chat-to-app builders in this batch, such as Lovable and Replit Agent, an editor assumes you have a project folder and some comfort reading file names. It is closer to Cursor.

What Are the Usage Limits and Extra Usage?

The Free plan is the only plan with an explicit warning label: light quota and limited model availability. Pro raises quotas and opens the full model list. Max raises them further, with no figure given.
The FAQ on the pricing page names smaller models such as Haiku, GPT 5.2 Mini and Kimi K2.5 as options for routine tasks. A comparison table on the page mentions concurrent sessions of "up to 10", but the text opened does not show which plans that applies to, so it is not used here.
Extra usage is billed at API pricing, which is per token and varies by model. The pages give no dollar example, so a per-task cost cannot be stated. Teams users who add a full seat get $40 a month of usage across Devin products, per the FAQ.

What Can a Small Business Use It For?

These are possibilities, not results. An editor works on files in a project, so the tasks are small and concrete:
  • Updating text, hours and prices on a landing page stored as files.
  • Renaming and reorganizing images and menu files in a site folder.
  • Writing a short script that cleans a list exported from a booking tool.
  • Adding a section to an existing page, such as a price list for a pet groomer or class timetable for a studio.
A person must still check the output in a browser. If the aim is a website with no editor at all, see how the Cursor route compares, and the AI automation guide for non-code options.

What Would It Cost? A Worked Example

This is an assumption using only published prices. A fitness studio owner wants help with a class page for three months.
LineAssumptionCost
Free planOne month to test$0
Pro planTwo months at $20$40
Max planOne month at $200 if the Pro quota runs out$200
Total, Pro only$40
Total, Pro then one month of Max$240
Max is ten times the Pro price and the page gives no quota figures, so moving up is a leap rather than a step. Extra usage at API pricing is the other route and cannot be priced from the pages opened.

What Are the Risks and Limits?

  • No numbers for quotas. Neither the pricing page nor the FAQ states message counts, so usage is hard to predict.
  • Free is light. The vendor itself calls the Free quota "light" and limits model availability.
  • Rename confusion. Menus and labels may mix old and new names. The FAQ notes the app name changes to Devin.
  • Overage at API rates. Extra usage on paid plans is billed at API pricing.
  • Review. AI edits can be wrong. Test pages before publishing.
This guide did not open Windsurf's or Devin's data-retention and training terms, and the FAQ page opened does not cover them. Check them before using customer data.

How Does Windsurf Compare With the Other AI Tools?

Only facts confirmed on each vendor's own page on 7 November 2026 are shown. "Not confirmed" means the page did not open or did not state it.

FAQ

Is Windsurf free?

Yes. The Free plan is $0 and gives a light quota to code with agents, limited model availability, and unlimited inline edits and Tab completions, according to the pricing page.

How much is Windsurf per month?

Pro is $20 a month, Max is $200, and Teams is $80 a month plus $40 per full developer seat. Enterprise is priced on request. Annual prices were not shown in the text opened.

Is Windsurf the same as Devin Desktop?

Yes. Devin's FAQ says Devin Desktop is the new name for Windsurf, with the same editor and existing plans continuing unchanged. Devin Cloud is a separate product.

What happens when I hit the Windsurf limit?

The allowance refreshes on a daily and weekly basis. On paid plans you can buy extra usage, which is consumed at API pricing. Free users wait for the refresh or upgrade.

Is Windsurf worth it for a small business?

Only for someone who edits website files or scripts regularly. The Free plan is the zero-cost test. Without an editor workflow, a chat-based builder is simpler.
